Davis and Harrington to The D?

Add this to the swirling trade rumors surrounding The Pistons this off season. According to "sources" The Pistons would be willing to send Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace to Golden State for Baron Davis and Al Harrington.

Via The Contra Costa Times

"A team source said that Davis has told teammates he will not exercise the opt-out provision in his contract before its June 30 expiration date, meaning that he will play out the final year of the deal at a salary of $17.8 million.

Given that stalemate, it's possible that Davis, who wants to stay in the Bay Area but was disappointed with the lowball offers from the Warriors, will ask to be dealt. And the team source said that the Detroit Pistons, rebuffed initially in their attempts to pry

forward Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets, are now looking at Davis as a potential target.

Joe Dumars, the Pistons' president of basketball operations, gave notice after losing the Eastern Conference finals that no one on his veteran-laden team would be safe, and the source said Detroit is willing to divest itself of longtime stars Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups.

Wallace, like Davis an unrestricted free agent after '08-09, would give the Warriors their best true power forward since Chris Webber's first stint in 1993-94 and has 3-point range that coach Don Nelson would love.

And the inclusion of Billups, who has been made more expendable by the emergence of rookie Rodney Stuckey last season, would ease any concerns from Nelson about the point guard position. Although Nelson thinks Monta Ellis eventually needs to move to point guard, he played him primarily at shooting guard on offense last season, allowing Davis to quarterback the team.

Since Wallace and Billups will combine to take home nearly $25 million in 2008-09, the Warriors would need to add more salary ballast to Davis in order to make the salary-cap numbers work.

One possibility in that role would be forward Al Harrington. A source close to the 10th-year forward said he is currently leaning toward requesting a trade from the Warriors this summer, although he will not make a final decision until after the draft."

I am not sure what rumored deal (Josh Smith, Carmelo) I like the best, but you can be sure that things will start to take shape after the NBA Daft takes place tomorrow night.

UPDATE : Chris McCosky of The Detroit News says there is no truth to this rumor.

"Pay no attention to the report out of Oakland that the Pistons and Warriors talked about a deal that would send Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups to Golden State for Baron Davis. That deal was a total fabrication, nothing of the sort was ever discussed."

Seems like both teams get equal value.

I'd hate to see Chauncey go but it would be more than worth it if we were able to extricate ourselves from Rasheed Wallace.

I don't know what I think about this deal though it sounds a little better than the other ones that have been tossed around. I will say that I don't think it's really equal value. Harrington is no Sheed, not even in the same class.

Wow.. Davis,Rip,Tayshaun,Harrington and dyess? thats kinda brutal lol with stuck max and amir on the bench? i kinda like it..

davis is a big upgrade to chauncey hes a better rebounder better scorer and rebounds too.

Harrington is about the same in scoring as sheed, but doesnt have the un guardable release, harrington is more deadly from 3's i know i feard him when we played for the pacers but not too sure about his inside presence if somone can let me know.. i think its an even trade but if davis wasnt in the deal id say keep sheed.

i say its a solid trade that also makes your team younger and thats what everyone wants.

My only serious concern is Davis' health but he has been better the last couple of years for the most part.

Games missed:
02-03 ... 32
03-04 ... 15
04-05 ... 36
05-06 ... 28
06-07 ... 19
07-08 ... 0

a few things on this (i totally called it) trade.

Davis' health : We have Arnie, and in Arnie we trust.

Not only is BD a better all around point guard than CB, but one thing that is constantly failed to be mentioned is his fire & desire. He wants it!!! His heart is stronger than CB's lackluster motivation.

I like Al, but he's no sheed... when sheed wants to be sheed. We will get consistant numbers from AH, like 17 and 6's every night, instead of a few 7 and 4's from sheed for weeks at a time.

This is a trade that longs for constistancy, production and stability. You got my vote Joe!

nat, no way in hell i would trade sheed and chaunce for those 2. are you guys delusional, heres something that a 2nd grade could probably understand better than you guys.....2 two time all star traded to davis and harrington....to a 2nd grade kid, it would mean trading 2 candy bars for 2 two pint of ice cream.......if youre saying you like 2 candy bars better, then you are delusional.

we get younger... but i dont like how our pf/c positions are gonna look.. we need a real center, dyess should not be a starter i dont care what anyone says... al isnt big enough to play center nor is maxi.. i guess the idle line up with this trade is

b davis
rip city
tay tay
maxi
harrington

maybe its just me being a detroit sports fan but ive learned not to trust harringtons.. we should just give them chauncey and someone else for davis because i'm not down with giving sheed for harrington

12:27 PM, June 25, 2008

I think Mobius pretty much summed it up. Davis is an upgrade over Billups, but Harrington is basically a downgrade from Sheed.

And what do we do about the center position? Do we plug Harrington in there like the Warriors did?? I sure hope not.

in general, pistons needs another pf or a true center.....trading one of our bigs for a pg and an sf makes the pistons problem bigger. davis is good, but i don't think hes a big upgrade over billups....hes not as savvy as handling the ball as billups.

12:43 PM, June 25, 2008
Blogger HeliAdam said...

I think this would be a good deal...provided we can find a true center elsewhere. Did anyone else see that DeSagana Diop is a free agent? He's not expensive and has a good upside. If you don't want to make that kind of risk Josh Smith is also a free agent. Of course maybe the clippers would show interest in Sheed and we could work something out with Chris Kaman....ok I know I'm dreaming here...

I just remembered something. If Robin Lopez can slip to our pick he would be a great player and would fit right into what is sure to be a defensive oriented scheme with Coach Curry...(nice ring to it)Solves our center problem right there.

Blogger ric said...

kaman is a good pick up but not brand....i wouldn't trade 2 of our core for baron davis...ESPECIALLY 2of our all star player for davis. get kaman for billups...as for sheed, i would never trade him for anyone else whos available unless its stoudemire.

stuck
rip
prince
sheed
kaman

or

stuck
rip
prince
stoudemire
kaman

I love Baron especially the beard! but Harrington is not going to be our Center. He can't, he's not dominant enough defensively and you guys complain about Sheed shooting threes, Harrington does the same thing but when he does bang in the post he can't make anything happen. I think this leads to another trade because we will once again have 6 starter caliber players. A Harrington Tayshaun trade for a good Center and bench big man or PG will be good I'll play around in the trade machine for a minute or two.

2:57 PM, June 25, 2008
Blogger Dominic said...

One thing that works is Tayshaun and Al Harrington for Camby and Nene

here's our starting lineup

PG: Barron
SG: Stuckey
SF: Hamilton
PF: Nene/Maxiell
C: Camby

Good lineup but I don't think it's better than our current one, lot's of scoring from the backcourt and wing players Hamilton is probably too small to play the 3 but after seeing him guard Lebron I think we can risk it. However our PF and C positions won't put up much points but they'll defend like no other. Overall the lineup is quite injury prone especially if Nene is playing the PF. I still like our current lineup better.

3:13 PM, June 25, 2008
Blogger HeliAdam said...

Hey dominic, if you're looking for serviceable guards, take a look at Minnesota. They have two young restricted free agents in Sebastian Telfair and Kirk Snyder. Either of them backing up rip and stuckey would be great as stuck is still unproven except for a little pop in the playoffs. We could pick up either one of those players for much less than the midlevel exception. Personally I'd prefer Snyder as he's a defensive player and has NO RELATION to Marbury!

3:16 PM, June 25, 2008
Blogger amer-ican prince said...

i agree with blaze5611. I wouldn't give up sheed for Harrington. I like the idea to bring Baron Davis in. I love Baron Davis. And I'm kind of a fan of Josh Smith, and Marcus Camby. If we could bring those guys in. That would be awesome. But we can't give up Sheed. But you put him with Baron's heart and the fact he is a much better passer than Chaunceyy, a SF leaper who can help protect the paint with the bigs, or a shot blocking center, that would do damage on the defensive end. I just don't think we have to get real young like everyone's saying.

4:07 PM, June 25, 2008
Blogger ric said...

dominic...rip did guard lebron and it seems to work.....how about a 7 game series? no way in hell! not to mention paul pierce. oh yea, if you love his beard, u should have one not trade one of the core for it.

americanprince, whats ur basis that davis is a more passer than chauncey...also, joe is never gonna do something coz everyone is saying it, i.e. "get real young" no need for that, we already have zoo crew for it.

remember, joe isn't giving pistons core away without getting the best player from a team. baron davis maybe the best player in golden state, butwe all know we can do better than a baron davis especially if we already have elite backcourt in the current lineup.

The Suns will probably not give up Amare, and definately not for an old player like Sheed. The age difference is too big. The story you linked to clearly states that it is what someone THINKS the suns should do. There is not validity to that, and it would never happen. Thats like saying we should get lebron. They aren't going to give up their star player for an aging player, period.

oh and mobius this is a post from pistons mailbag from monday

Moe (Oxon Hill, Md.): The only reason Boston and LA made the Finals was because of their blockbuster trades. We need a legit center so McDyess can play his natural position. If Sheed is traded, it has to be for Amare Stoudemire. Shaq can calm Sheed and we get a younger, more controllable superstar.

Langlois: Moe, if you can get Larry and Curly on board to help the Pistons swing the kind of no-brainer trades Boston and the Lakers were gifted, that would help. Rasheed for Stoudemire? I can see Phoenix having interest in that. The Suns have serious cap issues and they’re clearly in go-for-broke mode now, thus the Shaq trade for Shawn Marion. Shaq and Steve Nash might have one or two more tries to get it done, which coincides with Rasheed’s contract status and window, as well. Rasheed’s ability to guard the West’s best big men would appeal to Phoenix.

so don't get to high and mighty on us trying to act like that trade was never talked about

Sarah, that button on the far left of the keyboard turns off the obnoxious. It's called caps lock. Also, because of the last few seasons Joe realizes he needs to break up his core of which Chauncey and Rip are a big part of. We need to grow up and realize the pistons of next year will not me the same as the ones we know and love.

thanks blaze, im well aware of that info. from keith langlois...there are tons of more info about amare and sheed trade that's why im not hesistant to mention it....

mobius, i hope that clarfies your negativity about amare/sheed trade not happening.....just imagine kg saying no to boston on the first time? offcourse everybody said, "nope, kg isn't going to boston". in that sense, amare hasn't even said anything, and if he said no! just like melo and kg, don't ever close the possibility.

danafesto, youre right, im hell kidding, i don't want kobe in pistons....i rather have hermann.

blaze, i, myself feels good about joe's trading deal agendas...just imagine one that slip into our ears...denver ask about billups and joe told them straight, they would have to give up melo.....now u know joe isn't settling for less. i have a reason to believe that few of these are in joe's plate.

amare stoudemire
tmac
melo
kaman

on tmac, heres my thought and STRONG reasoning why hes on joe's top list, the rest, i would have to share it later on.

its fun to play trademachine on espn...heres another scenario that worked...but its a complete sweep of our core.

sheed for amare
rip/prince for tmac
chaunce for kaman, knight, powell and thornton

that means

starting:
stuck
tmac
thornton
amare
kaman

bench:
dyess
maxiell
amir
afflalo
powell
knight
samb

you can't get any better than that!!! frontcourt average more than 2 blocks a game and average double-double....and we got stuck, tmac and thornton with offense/defense minded.....curry can guide this team to successful defensive threatt with their natural scoring ability....plus, look how deep our bench is. crazy!
