Jarvis Hayes Too Hot for The Hornets

Detroit completed a season sweep of the New Orleans Hornets Sunday afternoon with a 105-84 victory at The Palace. The shorthanded Hornets came to play, shooting out to an 11-0 lead to start the game. The Pistons buckled down and took control in the second quarter thanks to Jarvis Hayes, who had his best game as a Detroit Piston.

Key Points:
  • Love the way Mason says Jarvis Haaaaaaaaaaaayes. I was just mentioning how much I enjoyed it during the Spurs game, but we really got to hear plenty of it this afternoon.
  • The Hornets David West didn't even make the trip to Detroit and Chris Paul was noticeably slower in today's game. Even a hobbled CP3 is extremely impressive, 14 points and 14 assists. Talented, electrifying and humble, what's not to like?
  • Four Pistons in double figures and everyone on the roster played.
  • Jarvis Hayes tied his career high with 29 points and was clearly the player of the game for Detroit. "Georgia made to the SEC championship game yesterday, and I'm just riding the wave,I was feeling good all day long." Via NBA.com

  • Maxiell again showed the National Television audience he comes to play hard every game. This was possibly the most impressive blocks of his career and that's saying a lot.
  • Maxiell finished with 9 points, 9 boards, 2 steals, 4 3 blocks and one robbery.
  • Can't complain one bit about Tirico and Brown they showed much love for Detroit from tip to buzzer.
  • I'm just in awe of what Houston's doing.
  • Great ball movement from Detroit, who seemed to make sure they passed until the perfect shot appeared.
  • Jarvis made his first six shots going 10-for-12 on the night tying his career high of 29. His 7 of 8 three's was a career high. Joe Dumars has the Pistons record of 10.
Courtesy of The NBA, ESPN and ABC
  • Shoot Jarvis. "I was on him last game because he had a couple (shot) opportunities, wide open and he didn't shoot," Pistons guard Chauncey Billups said. "I said 'Dude, that's what you do. You're the best shooter on the team. You got an open shot, plays over. Shoot it." Via MLive
  • Another double digit rebound game for McDyess with 11. I don't know if it's the fact that he's starting or not, but he sure has a lot of pep in his step along with some extra spring in his shoes.
  • Stuckey, Maxiell and of course Jarvis Hayes got the bulk of the bench minutes. I'm assuming the fact that Jason Maxiell had a monster of a game is the reason Flip only played Ratliff for 5 minutes.
  • Rebound war lost 37-40.
  • Stuckey played well in 18 minutes putting up 8 points, 2 assists a steal.
  • Amir played his 3 minutes after the game had already been decided.
  • Sheed, 10 points, 3 assists, 4 boards, a blocked shot and a steal. He also was called for his 10th technical foul of the season.
  • Chauncey was also on his game with 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting with 5 assists and 2 steals in 29 minutes. It was nice to see Billups have an easy game of it after struggling a bit against The Spurs.

  • Tayshaun Prince the new Usher?
  • Spark plug "There's no question-that block ignited the team and ignited the crowd,' Saunders said. 'We really took off after that." Via NBA.com
  • NBA.com Highlights of The Game.
  • Chauncey picked up a tech for sticking up for Maxie after he got robbed.
  • Solid outing from Tayshaun Prince who played the most minutes of any starter with 36. All of Prince's points seemed to come when the Pistons needed to close the gap. He finished with 13 points, 4 assists and 2 boards. Tayshaun seems to be getting in the habit of having more assists than boards.
  • Hayes scored 10 points in the second quarter in a 10 minute stretch. His 29 points came in 25 minutes on the floor. When he's hot he's blistering.

  • The Jumpshot ruled again for the Pistons. The Hornets had 42 points in the paint to 24 from Detroit.
  • The largest lead for the Hornets was 13. The Pistons led by as much as 24.
  • 53 bench points for Detroit.
  • The Pistons knocked down 14 three's, one short of a franchise record.
  • Most spastic ripoff of Sheed's circle dance ever.
  • Tuesday at home against Denver should be tough.
  • Just a reminder...Blogfest is approaching! Matt and I are expecting a big turnout, please don't dissappoint us. GuaranSHEED fun for all.

Natalie, what do you mean by T. Prince is the new Usher? It seems that I missed out on something potentially funny.

I hadn't seen the 'Stons in a while, but it's always good to see them kick some butt... Especially CP3's (I'm sorry, but being from Illinois I have to pledge loyalty to DERON WILLIAMS and believe he is DA MAN!). Having said that, I think it was good to see Jarvis have a MONSTER GAME! It was insane! And Maxxi gave us more highlight reels. Aside from his best impersonation of Hakeem Dikembe O'Neal yet, he had a nice dunk following up a play in the second quarter, I think...

Also, Natalie, could you please post up Sheed's BALL DON'T LIE after Chris Paul missed the shot for the first technical? I heard that and I couldn't help cracking up!!!!! That was a nice Sheed moment right there!

I don't know you, but I thought that having Chauncey get a technical for backing up Maxxi was a big deal. I mean, you're not gonna see Kobe or LeBron getting a T for one of the bench guys anytime soon now would you? That's a sign of how much the starters value the Zoo Crew!!!!

Glad to see the 'Stons in action! Nice way to kick off March Madness indeed! Too bad we don't get a taste of T-Mac anytime soon! I'd love to see RA break that winning streak!!!!

I definitley can't go a day without reading Need4Sheed .. It will keep me up to date when I'm traveling overseas for a few weeks & can't watch the Pistons on tv there! Keep up the great work Natalie :-)
That game was great even I didnt mind the national tv announcers this time (as I much prefer Blaha and Kelser calling the game. At least it wasnt Bill Walton announcing (he gets on my nerves!).
I was peeved when Chauncey got a technical for standing up for Maxiell. Bad refs there!
Hayes - VERY impressive shooting as well.
Overall great game - I missed part of it because I had to work yesterday but I did get to see the remainder.
Yes I admit it - I have 2 great clips on my ipod = Sheed's 60 ft shot with 1.5 seconds to tie the game and.... the clip of Tayshaun changing his jersey & getting the cheers from the ladies at the Palace (and the looks of the guys on the bench laughing too!!).

definitely a game to make you feel good, but it wasn't particularly a challenge. we came prepared for a plus .500 team and played like it. unfortunately they were unable to play like a plus .500 team thanks to their injuries. it frightens me to think what paul could have done healthy. great shots by jarvis though. he's stepped up big time in shooting and defense and all around hustle. i hope he keeps it up.

"His 7 of 8 three's was one shy of breaking Joe Dumars record of 8 for Detroit."

I believe Joe set Detroit's record at 10 three-pointers, not 8.

Thanks Anon...your right about Joe's record. Shame on me for a making less of something Joe D did.

Thanks for the kind words about the site, it is a lot of hard work but I wouldn't be doing it unless I loved The Pistons.

Thor...tall order, but I will see what I can do. Best I can hope for is recording them the next home game. Just don't know how they will come out.

Dear ,

I'm an inter with startup widget 1000 and I created a news widget for
Detroit Pistons News.
It's updated every hours with NBA headlines from several different sports websites like ESPN, FOX Yahoo, etc. (Take a look:http://www.widget1000.com/)

Can we add Detroit Pistons Team blog to the widget, too? That means that every time you post to your blog the headline of the post will show up on the widget and link directly to your post.
Anyone who puts this widget on their start page or on their website will see your
Detroit Pistons posts too. It's a powerful and free way to publicize your site.

Finally, would you add the Detroit Pistons News Widget to your site so that others can see it?
Everyone who grabs the widget will automatically link to you so it's great for your search engine rankings. Plus, it shows a lot of stories about NBA and since it's updated every hour it is fresh and will make your site even more appealing than it already is.

What do you think?

Go Detroit Pistons

I got to the palace late for this game the pistons were down I think as wel were walking down to our seats they starting to comeback into the game, I figure I didn't miss much the first part of the first quater itwas all pistons after that... The palace was load eight from the start, I love going to games so much, I haven't gotten to us my tickets much but I sure picked a good one to go, however everytime I come over to the states when I am going back in to canada they search my car, I can come into the usa no problem but it seem my own country don't want me but its all worth it going to the games,

Anyway Hayes was on fire it seemed like he couldn't miss, I really like how flip keep him in the game and even with tay out there, flips rotations were not bad this game... ps does anyone know where I can buy a pistons calendar besides on line, a store many be in port huron or by the palace, oh ya my sister and I decide to stop by fridays for dinner on m59 on our way back, if you are there ask for a waiter named Brandon he is the sweatest thing...
