Theo's Back? Dumars to sign Ratliff

Looks like Dale won't make it back after all.

"The Minnesota Timberwolves placed veteran center Theo Ratliff on waivers Thursday night and have agreed to buy out the remainder of his $11.6 million contract.

If Ratliff clears waivers in the next 48 hours-which is almost a given with his salary-he will sign with the Pistons for the prorated amount of the veteran's minimum ($1.3 million).

Ratliff, 34, was drafted by the Pistons in 1995. He has only played 12 games the last two years, but he is healthy now." Via The Detroit News

I haven't followed Ratliff in a couple of years, but I aways liked him when he was with the Pistons. He's had his ups and downs, but he's got a sold game and can rebound and block shots like nobody's business. A true center that may not have the bulk that Davis does, but if he's healthy he's a nice insurance policy for Detroit. A definite upgrade in my eyes to Brezec, who hustled, but didn't fit well in Detroit's system.

Thanks to Sonia and Team Need4Sheed for making sure we are always in the know even before I can post it.

OT: Please take a second and VOTE for Detroit's Children's Hospital a click goes a long way for Sickle Cell. Let's do this, Detroit's a bit behind Houston and voting ends tomorrow.

honestly i like this pick up, its always good to have veteran big men in the playoffs, theo still is a great rebounder and shot bocker

wow has to sit when he comes to the team? I know he will bring the playoff exp. but who will amir? walter? dixon? when lindsay plays in the playoffs who sits then? also when the pistons win do the other 3 players who are inactive get a ring as well or do just the active 12 who play in the final game? I ask this becasue i am sure there will be a few sitches where one guy might be active one gme or series and be inactive another.

Amir is going to be great and i hope he keeps getting minutes all season long, but theres a chances he wont be fully read for grind out playoff ball yet so instead of having him in for 10 mins in the east finals theo will probably get those minutes, amir is growing rapidly you never know maybe he'll be evn better by then but i think its a great pick up, theo is always ready to come in and play though D and rebound

Great move by Joe D waiting for another big to come available. Theo has more blocks than New York City.

Theo Ratliff is an upgrade over Dale Davis. I predict he'll be more of an insurance policy than eat up Amir's minutes, but Amir is foul prone and still developing. Theo is a great signing, along with Walter Hermann and Juan Dixon. This is the best bench Detroit has had since '04, without a doubt--young, but with a few key veterans to help fortify the team.

Bring on those playoffs!

wouldn't be a possibility that houston rockets might sign him or/and offer him more money and minutes to play, now that yao is out. joe should make a move asap.

This possible signing brings the pistons one step closer to a championship good move Joe D I like it a lot you did your job....

Now all they have to do is fix rotation goofs, backside defensive
awareness, and offensive execution problems when pressured and they'll win it all...

(i.e. the coaches must step up the remainder of the season and focus on fundamentals)

In clearer terms they have along way to go before they get out of the east and possibly get to the finals and win it all period....
