Webber likely a Warrior Again

Looks like C-Web is headed to the Warriors and I don't mind.
Chris Webber's unlikely but fast-moving return to the Golden State Warriors is on course to be completed by Tuesday, according to sources close to the negotiations.
Barring an unexpected change of heart, sources said, Webber will accept the invitation from former coach Don Nelson and former teammate Chris Mullin to come back to the team with whom he won NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1994, only for Webber to force a trade to Washington some six months later when his prickly relationship with Nelson collapsed.

Webber could not be immediately reached for comment Sunday, but sources insist that he would be Golden State-bound now even if the Detroit Pistons made an 11th-hour bid to re-sign him. The Warriors have offered to sign him for the rest of the season for a pro-rated share of the league's $1.2 million veteran minimum.

After a second-half stint with his hometown Pistons last season that ended in defeat in the Eastern Conference finals, Webber told ESPN.com in October that he would only play "as a Piston" this season..."unless something crazy happens." But he has relaxed that stance in recent weeks. Via ESPN
I know many of you want C-Web back, but I'm not heartbroken. Sure he did great things for us last season, but look how our Championship run turned out. Most of you called for a change at the end of last season, so what would bringing Webber back do? That's more of a backwards step if you ask me. I'm willing to roll the dice with our youth movement as long as Saunders will actually decide to trust them.

I agree. I really love the energy that Amir and Afflalo are providing right now. Adding another guy to the rotation would only slow that progression.

c-webb must be really desperate to get on a team if he's willing to sign with team that's not only a non-contender, but whose style of ball is incongruous with his.

this will be the start of the ultimate up-tempo offense. where your center never leaves the offensive side of the court.

I am fairly relieved that C-Webb is signing with someone other than the Pistons. It was fun while he was here, but I agree, it would just slow us down. I like the Warriors and I am interested to see if he can contribute there.

Still making your final decisions on the contest entries Natalie? Haha. Oh man I am anxious.

Yes he would slow us down, it's not like we are lightning fast to begin with in the first place.

The decisions are made, boy was it hard.

They will be up soon.

amir would lose to many valuable minutes if webb came back, and in the limited minutes he has gotten, hes made timely blocks and rebounds, and his offense will just come as he plays more, not to mention he could help us so much on the boards and we need it, so overall its a good thing cwebb isnt back, but hoenstly i wouldnt mind seeing brezec flip and hayes packaged for a bettr back up for prince

I have no interest to see the Pistons sign Webber. Our young players need play time to develop. He'd just delay the progress Amir is making and leave the Piston's short of a championship AND short another year of Amir Johnson.

I think people were all too ready to cry for a trade during the Piston's slump. The bench is young, and this is the kind of thing you have to expect with such young players. I'm willing to gamble on the young guys.

the only thing we are still in need of, is an athletic swingman who can spell Tay and provide defense rebounding and some blocked shots. Hayes is not getting it done, and Hermann is a bit too big. Where I'm going with this is, we need more than just Tay to guard Lebron in the playoffs this year. Maybe Peitrus from the Warriors would be a good fit, or someone along the same lines as Travis Outlaw from the Blazers. Peitrus is unhappy in golden state and is making 2.5 million, so maybe flip and hermann, or brezec.

Herrmann did a fantastic job guarding Dirk when we played the Mavericks -- Dirk is no Lebron, but you never know unless you give him the chance right? Herrmann can shoot too. I am not opposed to a trade, but if Herrmann can do the job I say let him. I don't think we will have to face Lebron in the playoffs because the Cavs flat out got lucky to make it as far as they did last year and they are not playing as well this year. Not saying it's impossible, but I just don't see it happening 2 years in a row for the Cavs. I wish Webber well with the Warriors -- as long as it's not against the Pistons. I thought he wanted a championship -- why would he want to take a chance with the Warriors? He'd have a better shot at it with the Lakers. There was an article on nba.com yesterday saying that the Lakers might be interested in him. Oh well, best of luck Chris!

Afflalo is taking those minutes from Jarvis. While he's definitely not a shot blocker, I think he can play decent enough defense on the likes of LeBron or Kobe for there not to be too big a dip in performance with Tay on the bench.

and unlike Tay, Afflalo will stop shooting if he's not making them.

I'm so happy for Webber... I think its great that he's returning. Last year he was able to mend his relationship with the city of Detroit, and this year he gets to mend his relationship with Nelson and the Bay Area. I think this is a great way to end his career, and it doesn't look like he's chasing championships, as Golden State is an exciting team but not quite the championship contender. Rather, he's playing the game he loves and mending relationships from the past.

I was just thinking about playoffs, as in, if they started today and all the higher ranks went through to the end...

East:

(1)Bos vs (8)Ind - (4)Cle vs (5)Tor
Figure Bos vs. Cle, prolly Bos pulls through.

(2)Det vs (7)Atl - (3)Orl vs (6)Was
Figure Det vs. Orl, and we got that on lock.

Det vs. Bos, and of course, Det wins cause we're sweet like that.

The west is a little more complicated, but by my best guess, it'll be Utah and Phoenix, SA being upset in the first round by Utah with a late season surge carrying over to the playoffs. Phoenix finally beats someone in the late rounds and maybe Detroit plays Phoenix in the finals?
