Rip and Roll

The Pistons rolled through the Raptors Tuesday night at The Palace to end Toronto's three game winning streak. Detroit was in control most of the game with the exception being a horrible ending to the second quarter that left the Pistons with just a one point lead at halftime.

That slight setback didn't seem to bother The Pistons as they came out of the locker room, put their noses to the hardwood and went on a 9-0 run to start off the third quarter. That set the team in motion and it was all they needed to get their momentum back and coast to the finish line. Final Score 103-89.

Key Points:
  • Surprisingly Rip and Chauncey were the only Pistons in double figures. They combined for 59 points.
  • Boy did Delfino really put a scare into the Pistons in the second quarter. He was the reason The Raptors were down by just one at the half. Carlos went 3-for-3 from downtown and finished with 14 points. The Palace held a grudge against the former Piston, booing him at every make.
  • 29 assists for The Pistons on the night.
  • Flip had a short rotation, but because of the fourth quarter lead everyone played.
  • The Prince of the Palace - Sweet up fake on Bosh for a dunk! Tayshaun finished with 6 points, 5 assists, 2 boards, a steal and a assist.
  • Stuckey likes to drive the lane and it's a nice thing to see on a Pistons team that really hasn't had a player like that in a while. He finished with 8 points and 5 assists. I liked the fact that Flip had him on the floor with Mr. Billups.
  • I believe Rasheed gets his strength from his facial hair.
  • RIP A Dee Doo Dah
Rip Hamilton

  • Rip was on FIRE, he led the Pistons with a whopping 39 points going 5-for-6 from behind the long line. Rip also added 6 assists and 4 boards in 38 minutes on the floor.
  • Jarvis Hayes is still struggling with his shot. He scored just 2 points on 1-for-5 shooting.
  • Bargnani (could he be a bust) had a great game against the Pistons last time out, he was non existent on Tuesday. In fact he played just 16 minutes for the Raps.
  • I watched a bit of the broadcast when I got home and heard Sheed talking to no one in particular "You know Carlos can't defend Chauncey"... "Post up on his skinny @%&." Classic.
  • McDyess was a point away from a double-double. Diggity had 9 points, 13 boards 2 blocked shots and 7 steals.... Now that is Ridiculous, I can't remember a game when anyone had 7 takeaways. Antonio was a +23 in the box. You know my love for all things Dyess, even when he's slumping.
  • BA BA BA Billups put up 20 on 5-for-9 shooting. His off balance drive to the lane circus shot that fell with an and one had me screaming "Count that Baby and a Foul!".
Chauncey Billups

  • Nat Chua, Team Need4Sheed member, made sure to send me a screen shot of Kelser's Keys... Does anything look familiar? Just a quick note about Nat, he uploaded a few pictures to FanPicTastic.com and I have to tell you THIS is the best T-Shirt I have ever seen. Thanks Nat!
  • Biggest Piston lead, 18 points.
  • I think the people around me thought I was a lunatic.
  • 5 Raptors in double digits.
  • Rebound war lost 38-42.
  • NBA.Com Highlights of the game.
  • Jason Kapono must have a Spray Tan franchise.
  • Rip A De YAY!
Rip Hamilton

  • Rip had everything going for him. He even tried to connect with Sheed on a alley oop. It would have been a awesome if Sheed could have gotten it down, I love the one handers. Whenever Rip is coming off screens, good things happen. No turnovers on the night.
  • "That's my real estate in that corner; like Monopoly," Hamilton said. "I got four houses and a hotel on there, you know what I'm saying? That's what I do." Via MLive Rip talking about his favorite spot in the corner along the baseline.
  • Please don't forget that Need4Sheed.com is giving away Pistons Tickets.
  • 50% from the floor from the Pistons.
  • 28 points in the paint for the Pistons, 36 for the Raptors.
  • Maxiell seems to be having a hard time getting his dunks to go down lately. Sheed and Chauncey were cracking up on the bench after one of his misses. Jason finished with 8 points, 9 boards and 2 assists in 28 minutes on the floor. And he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
  • Great job limiting Bosh
  • We needed this one.
  • Nothing is better than having Sheed throw down a nice one and touch the backboard after the jam.

  • Good times, good times.

I cannot get off the internet until I recheck Need4sheed again and again for news and recaps.

"RIP A Dee Doo Dah" pretty much sums up this game. However, the Ooh-la-la-I-Got-7-Steals McDyess shines like a twinkling star on the boxscore.

The "Monopoly" is priceless. It's just so...random.

hey Natalie, I don't mean to rush you or anything, but when do you think you will post up the In My Own Words show?

Tonites was a fun one.
There were a lot of Toronto fans around me, but they shut up some time during the third, and left by the 4th.
Rip was very hot in the warm up, and it wasn't a huge surprise that he had a big night.

And I don't even mind the max misses, because when he misses, he misses big.

What was up with all of the stuckey airballs?

Claire, it's going to be next week some time, but it's coming.

FLUIDICS, I don't mind the airballs, this was the first night he played without the brace on his hand. As long as he's not making mental mistakes and turning the ball over I'm good. The shooting will come.

Jarvis on the other hand is the epitome of streaky.

oh man! i missed the 1st half, i wished i saw stuck's drive to the basket. nat, you have any link or video of that? it was an awesome game and rip? was just crazy on fire, it seems like he just cant miss, it was so sickening (in a good way) that he just keep making shots AND making good plays. everybody else was great as well. im so happy for stuck that hes getting the hang of it, if everything continue the way it is, we'll see that kid explode in the playoffs or maybe even before, in 1-2 months. he can easily beat a lot of people off the drible. i love that kid. i smell 2 winning streak, pistons need to reclaim their throne when the kings beat them in november. i call this end of the month schedule PROCLAIMING THE THRONE.....bulls, lakers and the kings are the teams that beat them this season and they need to win these games to send a message (ofcourse, the other games as well). but ofcourse, they should still take one game at a time.

it wouldn't surprise me if maxiell has hurt his hands. i've been worried for a while that he slams them down so hard that he could hurt his hands or his back. it makes quite a statement, but i'm not sure in the long run it's wise.

kyle, this was brought up by the commentator after missing that one dunk. i agree, not to discourage him or anyone from going agressive to the basket, but hey, u can always slam it without going at it hard, more importantly, it may lead to physical injury overtime. this game with the kings, i would love to see stuck go one-on-one with martin. it'll be interesting two youngster compete.

by da way flip is for real!!

murray got ample opportunities to be a contributor to the pistons. the only times he managed to contribute, however, were the few games that he started for chauncey. for the most part he's a shoot first, slashing guard on a team that needed a steady, slow it down replacement for chauncey.

and complaining that flip gets less time than primoz or herrmann is silly. they play completely different positions. stuckey is already a better distributor and afflalo is a better defender.

murray may consider himself "fourth quarter slaughter," but if he'd used that garbage time to get some assists instead of jacking up a bunch of shots i bet he'd still be in the rotation.

12:40 PM, January 16, 2008
Anonymous Anonymous said...

flip murray could flourish on another team, but we have enough guards right now that we plan to play and ones we plan to dev elop by playing, its kind of like the delfino scenario, i think we knew he had the potential but, just to many other plays to crack the rotation solidly, flip could be great for a team who needs a slashing shoot first small guard, but we dont need that, because we are getting that and more hopefully as stuckey develops into a solid player.

to the Cavs fan above, i don't mind that u love the Cavs, everybody has their team to represent. Um i loved the game and i loved that FLip played the whole team. Imma be honest.....i miss flip murray now, i'm just now starting to grow on his game a bit (friving and trying to draw contact). I don't wanna see him leave because he lcaims to love Detroit and love this team and when someone has that much respect for ur city and ur tema u gotta lve the guy. NOW!!! i get y Amir and AA battery isn't playing that much. I was reading a article earlier today and Flipper said that the reason he has taken AA battery and Amir out the rotation BRIEFLY is because he is trying to get wannabe 50 cent ,lol jk Stuckey adjusted to the team and his shot and stuff, which now i totally understand now. I still believe in this team and i im growing onto Hermmann now because i like his game and his effort and his shot. Even though he made one shot yesterday i liked how he drove it and then shot it, I WAS BEAUTIFUL!! So yeah i still believe in this team no matter how many games we lose.

LET'S GO PISTONS AND LET'S GET THAT SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2007-2008 IT'S OUR TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

webber to lakers or heat....pat riley wouldn't be stupid enough to get another veteran especially without a championship background and for the large part, heading towards at the end of his career. doesn't it remind you of alonzo mourning. heat need some young fresh leg that they can replace for shaq and wade. on the other hand, lakers has too many young players developing, webber would be a beter fit. but then again, if he's goal is to get a championship this year, going to the lakers wouldn't be a wise decision. and don't count on webber would replace what bynum brings to the team, its not gonna happen. kwame brown has a better chance of providing that.

We should pick up Webb to play between 17 and 22 min. a night. Dyess shouldn't be playing 30 min a night anyhow, more like 24min, Sheed should play no more than 30, and Max with his high energy is most productive in short spurts, so 22min. Do the Math: 24 30, 22 plus 20 for Webb equals 96 minutes. I am not implying that we do this for the playoffs, but during the regular season having a Popovich type rotation is the smartest. I also think Webb would be a great leader and facilitator for the second team playing along with Max who will make up for any defensive lapses, and getting the ball spread around to all the young guns.

nicholas,
the thing about webber is that if you're going to make the 2008 version productive you have to change the way you play. We did it last year and it severely hurt our defense and Rip's offense. Then, when the playoffs started C-Webb faded and so we had to try to change back, but it was too late.

i agree that having a popovich like rotation is the smartest, but i think with herrmann, amir and brezec we have enough talent to handle those minutes, without having to make the drastic changes a player like webber would demand.

i just don't think you can make a player as limited as webber effective unless you tailor-fit almost everything to suit him. after seeing last season and then seeing this, i'm un-willing to make that change again.
