Team USA Destroy The Virgin Islands

Michael Redd had the hot hand in Team USA's 123-59 rout over The Virgin Islands. Redd knocked down threes at will as he and Carmelo Anthony each scored 22.

Key Points:
  • Team USA is now 2 and 0.
  • USA must place in the top 2 of The FIBA Americas tournament in order to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.
  • Not many basketball fans are taking advantage of seeing the Superstars play. Attendance for last nights contest was a little over 5000 people.
  • Mike Miller and Amare Stoudemire added 13 points apiece.
  • Chauncey Billups knocked down a three at the buzzer to put the team up 42-13.
  • Team USA shot 15-of-30 from 3-point range and had all 12 players score.
  • I am still amazed by Dwight Howard, he just makes things look so easy.
  • The Americans are off Friday with a game Saturday against Canada at 3:00 PM on ESPN2
  • You can watch highlights right here.
  • Michael Redd scored 15 points in 5 minutes.
  • Billups was 2-for-4 for 6 points in 16 minutes.
  • Tayshuan Prince logged 19 minutes but was just 1-for-7 for 2 points. He did however grab 12 rebounds.

Photo/Getty Images
  • Jason Kidd blocked just as many shots as Dwight Howard - 2.
  • Amare was 6-for-7 from the floor.
  • It's pretty to watch these guys play together.
  • Kidd had a sweet off the backboard pass to Lebron for the jam.
  • Kobe is actually being unselfish.
  • Skeets of The Basketball Jones live blogged the game and had some nice things to say about Tayshaun.
  • "You're around a very elite group right now and you can still see his greatness. The same can be said about a few more players, but Kobe, he's the cream of the crop." Said Billups.

For Game 2 I tuned into the same channel I watched Game 1 on and it wasn't being broadcasted. What the shit? lol Anyway...

123-59 is just pitiful.

I'm glad to hear Tayshaun and Chauncey played pretty well. Did they take the floor at the same time? That probably scared the hell out of those Virgin Islanders. haha I think Tim Duncan alone could have scored 59.

Yeah, Tayshaun looked a little off with his shot. However he played good defense and rebounded very well... I like this team a lot, but I would like to see them focus a full 40 minutes, i mean they were outscored in the 2nd quarter. Anyway, cant really complain i mean they won by 60++.

Tayshaun is going to get tired with all those minutes. But maybe he'll be in his prime at the start of the season and start the season off strong.

Kobe has always been unselfish, there isnt a guy in the nba that wants to win more than kobe bryant. Nobody puts in the amount of time and effort that he does everynight. and if you think im wrong than you know nothing about basketball. he got a bad rep from the media and his team mates in LA suck. i like to find someone who can win with kamwne brown and smush parker in the same starting lineup.
KOBE for mvp next year

I guess it's not Miller Time after all.

I didn't know that Reggie Miller was 42. Wow. He doesn't look it. Come to think of it, a lot of NBA players look younger than they are. But I guess there are a few who look a lot older than they are too (i.e, Baron Davis, Zydrunas Igaulskas).

It was cool to see the players from all the teams playing together (although honestly I probably wouldn't be watching if there were no pistons on the team) I like watching Tayshaun play with amare, he had some good passes to him for some dunks. Also I think it's cool seeing Tayshaun and Tyson Chandler on the same team, seeing as how they both went to Dominguez high school. You could see tayshaun trying to get Tyson a basket in the first game which i thought was pretty cool. Anyway looking forward to the rest of the games and the start of the season. Peace

Everytime I turned back around to the game, Tayshaun was grabbing a board! He had a couple nice assists too.

I didn't get to watch the game today. I see Tayshaun scored double digits. Oww! oww!

Dominic
Shit, Oden isn't even 20 yet! lol I think he's only 19. I remember during the Championship game against Florida a broadcaster said Oden's mom had to carry around his birth certificate 'cause nobody believed he was that young. lol He probably wouldn't look so much older if he just shaved his face.
