Chris Webber to the Mavs?

If this is true, my instincts were right about C-Webb's future with the Pistons. I really liked what Webber did for the Pistons when he joined the team last season, even though he didn't do much come playoff time. I just didn't think that The Pistons were going to re-sign him this season, although I would have liked them to.

Various reports cited by a Los Angeles radio station have the Dallas Mavericks close to signing Detroit Pistons free agent forward Chris Webber to a one-year deal using their mid-level exception. The Mavericks are willing to offer him the entire MLE, but would prefer to give him $3.5 million and use the rest to add one more piece to the roster.

Webber would add another scoring threat in the front court and a that ever-elusive back-up to Dirk Nowitzki. Via Hoopsworld.com

I can't say that I am to happy with the idea of Mohammed as the Pistons starting center, but at this point unless some kind of deal is goes down, it looks like that the way it will be. Nothing against Nazr, but he just didn't click with the team all the time and when he did it seamed like Flip always took him out.

Oh crap! Yeah he seemed to lose it come play off time, but he got us going in the regular season. If he goes I will miss him... especially since it seems that leaves us with Nazr, God help us. Can't blame Webber for making the move -- the Mavs are certainly title contenders. I won't root for the Mavs, but I wish Webber the best where ever he lands. Maybe there's still hope for him to stay here or just retire. I'd rather see him retire personally, but I think the man wants a ring.

No way, Mavs suck they are losers and thats what will happen to anyone that goes there I will certainly miss hearing Mason calling webber's name This IS CHRIS WEBBBBBBBERR, Nazr isnt too bad as long as he can actually score 6 points in a game we will be ok.

I can't stand Nazr. He disrupts the offence all the time. He thinks he's Tim duncan in side....the ball never comes out once he gets it.
Why can't we just start JMax?

I personally would have liked Webb to stay and start rather that Nazr.

But I also want to know why they cant start JMax at center? I know he plays forward, but with the way he plays, he'd be an EXCELLENT center as well.

Good riddance. Whatever Chris did in the regular season, he pulled a complete 180 in the playoffs and was a liability. He got Ben Wallace disease and made fans nauseous whenever he got the ball. His departure will give more minutes to our younger players. We have some pretty high expectations for Mohammed, especially in the shadow of Ben. If he can do what he does best, even if that means being an average player and contributing 6 and 8 a game, then we should be fine.

i don't want him coming back.
He did absolutely NOTHING in the playoffs, and was very inconsistant. The pistons are trying to stay as young as possible. Having C-webb out will help us more and more.

I don't understand why Webb would even want to go to Dallas. They are a very good team but they just lost in the first round and it shows that they have trouble during playoffs. I could see them winning a title in the future but not for a couple of years and that isn't what Webb wants.

I would have much rather seen C-WEBB in the rotation instead of Nazi, but I guess we'll see if the guy is finally worth the money the Pistons are paying him!

Max start, have Rasheed guard the centers. If Rasheed don't like it, trade him for somebody that will, it's not like he's not big enough.

^we're NOT trading sheed so you can count that idea out ha...

anyways as much as i love c webb i dotn think we should be fighting and giving all we have to keep him.. hes getting older.. and with older age comes weakness and less energy.. and maybe its a good thing hes maybeee leaving because then j max will finally be able to show what hes got.. and i think j max is wayyy more deserving than c webb to start.. he has proved so much to us and hes lost soo much weight and gotten into shape and hes just younger with more energy and has greater endurance than c webb.. he really wants it and hey i think we hsould give it to him.

dont get me wrong though i loove c webb and he fits in great with the team.. but you have to do whats good for the team.. not for the person.. detroit is an actual TEAM afterall... and thank GOD for that !

I don't think having Nazr has the starting center will be that bad. We haven't seen him play in a long long time. Who knows? Maybe's he improved. Even if he hasn't, as long as he gives us what he did last year and we have JMax and Amir, I think we'll be good.

To me, it doesn't really matter who starts at C anyway. I'm always going to look at the team as The Four Boys and...Some Other Guy.

Im not surprised at this. It might be good for the Pistons if C-Webb leaves so we can get our oung guys in and develop Nazr more. Anyways C-Webb was old and he wasn't that good of a defender. At least nazr can defend better.

Last season when Nazr started, it seemed like he was taken out half of the time early because he got into early foul trouble. At least from what I observed.

I'm going to be truthful I don't see the Pistons getting far with C-Webb are Mohammed at center. I hate saying this because I loved the Pistons since I was a little girl. Us fans won't see a good season if we don't get a good center.

The C-Webb hating I've read in some of the proceeding comments is pretty disturbing to me. Anybody who said he did "nothing" in the playoffs is sorely mistaken. He had a couple rough games, but heck so did everyone. It happens; remember the game where Chauncey had 3 more turnovers than assists? How about the game against the Bulls when Rip had more fouls than points, the dismal shooting of T. Prince in the Cleveland series, or the nervous wreck that our beloved 6th man had come playoff time? I think that we expect too much perfection from these athletes. They're just people, and I'm a Chris Webber supporter who hopes he either returns or retires.

I know we all want JMaxx but he's not a center and neither is Rasheed even though he could move over and play the 5 he's a much better PF.

i'm hurt because first Ben left now C-Webb leaves. I love C-Webb 2 death but i personally think going 2 the west is bad for him, but anyway i wish him luck but what i really want is Dyess to get his ring this year (championship ring) w/ this Pistons team this year. The good thing about Naxr is that he is young and athletic and he has long arms. Plus our youngs get to have more minutes and that's good to get them in a groove. So i'm still excited about this season. LET"S GO PISTONS AND LET"S GET THAT SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok im gonna miss c webb but if nazr can prove himself then im fine w/ that but if flip thinks its better for sheed to play c and jm to play pf i trust his judgement sheed is my fave player tho and i think hes an amazing pf

IM SO HIGH UP ON AMIR JOHNSON......HECK START HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...I MEAN YEA HE IS YOUNG AND A UNPROVEN FOR 82 GAMES AND PLAYOFFS...BUT I MEAN HELL HAVE 4 SMART AND VETERAN GUYZ LEADING HIM...C'MON...I WANNA SEE SOME YOUNG BLOOD IN THAT ROTATION!!!!!!!!!

2:26 AM, August 07, 2007

Amir Johnson has a tendency to pick up quick and easy fouls. He needs to get past that. That alone could be why he plays less minutes this season. We can't have the other team in the bonus early on all the time. Maxiell is a little short for playing center, I say let Dyess and least try the C for a few games and if he doesn't like it, go back to Nazr.

OK OK OK hold on....first of all i guess most of you dont read pistons.com....keith langlois wrote an interesting article on why havin nazr, my favorite player, as a starin center will be a very, VERY, good thing. Every night that Nazr DID NOT PLAY, or had a DNP OR DNC NEXT TO HIS NAME ON A STAT SHEET, he went after the game into the gym and worked...he worked on his game and his most precious skills.....he lost a lil weight as well......do you people understand that if you as piston fans...true piston fans and your coaching staff gave Nazr a chance...he would do very very well!!! I mean the very first game as a piston, nazr had 20pts, 12 rebs, 4 asst and 3 blocks...nd that was in the preseason against shaq...yess shaq....get your facts straight and together...NAZR IS THE STARTING CENTER AND HE WILL PROVE ALL THE HATERS WRONG.......
go pistons

Amanda. You have no idea what you are talking about. Not to be mean but you say "you will always see the team as the four players and the other guy"? That other guy is the CENTER: the main "other guy". If we don't have a good center, then we will be up against a 2-3 zone defense, leaving the "four guys" look like the "other guy". Mohammad sucks. Bottom line! If he starts, then Joe needs to find a better coach than Flip. He (mohammad) will not be a starter next season. I will bet my life on it. Jason is our best pick. Put wallace at the 5 spot and jason at the 4. Wallace has played the 5 spot 40% of his career and I'm talking about when someone like ben came out or like last year when chris came out. Who filled that 5 spot? Tay or Wallace right? People, 6 points a game from the 5 spot is not good enough. what if shaq scored just 6 points a game? would wade be as good as he is? Hell no. Mohammad is gumpy and will not help the team even win the second round next year. Get some backbone people. Stop agreeing with one another. If our center (5 spot) only 6 a game, then rip, tay, billups, and wallace's games will diminish. Max is our best bet at the 4 spot starter and rasheed is our best 5 spot starter. People. We don't have much to work with down below. Plus, if rasheed plays at the 5, he will less likely be in foul trouble. He will taking more fouls though and being that he is a pretty good free-throw shooter unlike mohammad, we could be contenders next year.

a-bar. what? nazr mowulla as the best player? I'll get my facts straight and together. You are talking about the first game in pre-season? What? What? What? Pre-season? Thats like saying the MVP for the All-star game is the best player that year. Damn. think for yourself. Just because what's his name said something about him being "very very good", as you say, doesn't mean he will be. What (other than the first PRE-SEASON game against shaq: yes-Shaq. Wierdo) has he done for us or as a reliver for Duncan in the past. NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING. IF HE STARTS, HE WILL START FOR NO MORE THAN TEN GAMES SEEING THAT WE WILL BE 0-10 AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON. Teams will play the 3-2 or 2-3 zone and you will see how good mohammad really is which is to say he should not be playing pro ball. I hope you mohammad lovers prove my minds eye wrong, but I just don't see this weak, gumpy guy doing anything. If you want me to get my facts straight, then look at what he did for the spurs and the pistons. NOTHING. Next this you are going to say is that he is a hall-of-famer due to however he played in vegas if he did play in vegas. Honestly, I don't know, because I don't care. He will never be a good player. He cant overpower anyone in the league, nor can he make free-throws. Don't rely on one PRE-SEASON GAME! THAT's JUST STUPID.

a-bar. Did you know he did get a shot? He was our starter at the beginning of last year but why do you think that didn't last? True, true pistons fans would know that. Some people really need to get their facts straight. I was excited to see what he could do at the beginning but when I saw how bad he was, I was so happy, (as a true piston fan) to see him not play. My favorite player doesn't rely on the fact that his last name is muslim. Go East dearborn. What a joke! nazr is the WORST player if he is on the roster all year. He will be our victory cigar at the end of a game when we are up by 30. Maybe he will see playing time then.

The thing is with Sheed playing center position is he doesn't like it. He likes to swing out to the 3 often. He hates being down in the paint all the time. And let's face it, if Sheed is unhappy on the floor, there goes our firepower!

I actually thought Nazr had some good games as a starter last year. Most noticeably in my eyes, he got in foul trouble early and wasn't consistent enough. Maxiell is a little too short to play center at 6-7, but if B Wallace played it then I guess Maxiell could too. Maxiell needs to improve his free throw to at least 70%, 75% would be really good.
