Pistons Take Down Cavs

The Pistons beat the Cavs 87-82 Sunday afternoon at The Palace inching then closer and closer to clinching the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Detroit, led by Richard Hamilton's 21 points, made a point of limiting LeBron James. The Pistons double team was effective, most of LeBron's 20 points came from the free trow line.

Key Points:
  • McDyess started in place of Rasheed, who Flip is limiting because of his hyperextended finger.
  • When Sheed was asked about why he didn't start the game he had this to say, "I didn't miss no practice so I don't know what it was for," he said. "Y'all gotta ask Flip. ... I was out there. I'm cooler than a fan."
  • The Pistons take the season series from the Cavs 3-1.
  • Speaking of the Cavs, there were a ton of obnoxious Cavs fans at the Palace.
  • MyDyess had a couple of awesome slams, the putback slam off a Tayshaun miss brought the house down.

  • I was shocked how many free trows the Cavs were making, considering that they are the worst free trow shooting team in the NBA.
  • That didn't matter though because LeBron choked at the line with seconds left on the game clock, he missed both free throws and helped cement the Pistons victory.
  • At one point during the first half the Pistons bench went in and Detroit was scoreless for what seemed like hours. They were stuck at 34 forever.
  • Glad I didn't have to see too much of Varjao, you know he irks me.
  • Six Pistons in double figures.
  • Tayshaun Prince has started 267 consecutive games.
  • The Pistons really limited LeBron.
  • Chauncey recored a double-double, 12 assists, 14 points, 3 steals and a block. He was clutch in the fourth when the Pistons needed him.

  • Can someone please explain to me why Larry Hughes didn't get a Tech for slamming the ball on the court?
  • I just want you to know that I did my part to calm the Cavs fans down at the Palace. A man from Cleveland was right in front of me so I shined my Pistons Logo Light on him whenever the Pistons were dominating.
  • I was so loud I gave myself a headache.
  • The Pistons bench did a horrible job in the second half and never returned.
  • Maxiell was just too small to handle Ilgauskas.
  • The Pistons let Pavlovic get too many easy layups.
  • Sheed's 10 straight points in the fourth was key.
  • McDyess recored a double-double, 18 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Rip led the team with 21 points and 6 assists.

  • This was a much needed win.
  • The Cavaliers and The Bulls are 4 games back of Detroit.
  • Huge minutes for the starters, let's hope they get some rest against the Knicks tonight.

I couldn't believe Hughes didn't get a tech for that! I loved 'Sheed's reaction though, screaming "That's a tech! That's a tech!" Oh, 'Sheedy.... We know, if it was you woulda been literally thrown from the game. lol

I hope I am wrong....is flip trying to goat sheed into a confrontation....he and mcdyess sat out parts of practice friday and saturday....that was a lame excuse why sheed did not start....however, it maybe that mcdyess is more useful as a starter with sheed coming off the bench...but why couldn't flip just say that. i just can't stand flip.....glad the sheed handled it well.

i thought it was sheeds damaged index finger that caused him not to start?

Coach Flip Saunders said it was because neither 'Sheed (finger injury) nor Maxiell (personal reasons) practiced and that is why 'Dyess got the start. He felt 'Dyess, who practiced with the team both days, would be the best choice in a tough game verse the Cavs. I just don't understand why Saunders wouldn't tell 'Sheed why he wasn't going to start him. 'Sheed acted like he had no idea when reporters were questioning Saunders' actions. Hopefully that was the real reason for benching him and there isn't some underlying drama going on. We don't need any of that this close to the postseason.

At any rate, McDyess played superbly so kudos to the Pistons 6th starter!

nothing about how well tay played in this game. As well James only had 2 points in the first quater and they were foul shots. I really thik Tay did well defending james.

I think that is why sheed got so mad after huges did not get that tech he reacted in a way I thought he was going to get a tech. I really do not know why there was not a tech because there should have been one. It did how ever make sheed got nuts and he was going to do anything to win this game. I was at this game and well there were a few rude cavs fans during half time they were yelling at pistons fans saying they sucked, I know I do not act liek that when I have gone to a game where the pistons are on the raod. Anyway this was a good game I hope the pistosn play like this all the way threw the playoffs but our bench needs to help a little

I'm just as mad as anyone at how sheed is treated unfairly when it comes to techs, and that Hughes one under the Zero tolerance policy probably should have been one (I think he got one later) But am I the only one who would just rather have the game go on, let them get away with it, we can still beat them, and being treated unfairly seems to give them that chip on their shoulder, from what I see the team plays harder when they feel they are being treated at a disadvantage TECHED SHEED IS A TICKED OFF SHEED. AND A TICKED OFF SHEED IS THE BEAST OF THE EAST. Anyone remember that Toronto game? DAMN!
Anyway back to the point I would rather have refs call less techs then more, I think that rule is ruining the game and the less they enforce it the happier I am.
