Chris Webber to Detroit? Maybe

So now we know which teams Chris Webber is looking at. New Jersey, Orlando, Lakers, Miami and Detroit are the teams he mentioned in his halftime interview on TNT.

David Aldridge had him packing his bags and on the next flight into to Detroit Metro, but Chris all shut down that rumor. Does that mean Detroit's still in the hunt? I think so. This article from Yahoo Sports says its all but a done deal.

Webber wants to win a championship. He wants to be on a team who wants him and will let him play his game. He also wants to be in a locker room full of guys that mesh and like to be on the floor with each other.

Detroit can give him all those things, except a starting spot and jersey #4. He said in his TNT interview (video link) that he would like to be in the starting lineup. That's just not going to happen in Detroit.

Now most Michiganders wouldn't mind seeing C Webb in a Pistons uniform. A lot of poeple who follow basketball in Michigan have a soft spot for Chris (except maybe some U of M fans for what he did to their basketball program). They would love to see him end his career and maybe even win a championship with the team he rooted for as a child. They want him to come home and finally play in Detroit. Is it good for the Pistons? That depends.

If the Pistons can pull off getting Webber for the veteran's minimum, I think it's a good deal. If he works with the team, great. If not we don't really lose anything. I think he would work well clogging the middle with Sheed and strengthen the bench. Do I see him starting here? No.

I am with Detroit Bad Boys on this one. If Webber comes to the D, wrap up Flip Murray and Dale Davis, trade them and get a reliable backup point guard for the team. That's something the Pistons have needed since they traded Arroyo away. Though I love Lindsey, I don't think we can count on him anymore.

Even Webber must know that his best years are behind him. If he truly wants to win a Championship he is going to have to swallow his pride and roll with a team that is a winner and take whatever roll he can to do that. What team right now that has realistic chance of winning the Championship this year is going to start him? Orlando maybe, but are they serious contenders?

It's up to Chris now.

UPDATE:
I wasn't even thinking about Chris in the starting lineup in Nazr's place. I guess he can actually start in Detroit.

I get chills just thinking of Cwebb in a Detroit uniform. I know he isn't the player he once was. He kinda has rubbed people the wrong way for numerous reasons. However, I was the biggest Fab Five fan ever. I was at the palace when he was drafted and for me this would be a wish come true. I will always be a Chris Webber fan. My fingers are crossed.

CWebb can start in Detroit. During the TNT interview, he said he's willing to play Center, and who do we have at Center, Nazr "Butterfingers" Mohammad, who's an Instant-foul machine and seems to be on a short leash with Flip Saunders. Even if that doesn't work, we can move Rasheed to C and have Webber play PF, Sheed needs to play in the post more anyway and this would force him to. Lastly, if Sheed is okay with JMax starting the past couple games over him, I don't see why he wouldn't let Webber start over him (they were good friends as teammates for the Washington Bullets) and Sheed doesn't strike me as a selfish guy.

PG Billups, SG: Hamilton, SF: Prince, PF: Webber, C: Wallace. Joe, make it happen!!!

Ewww, no Webber.
Lindsey plays better defense when healthy than Webber. Besides, Zeke is trying to work something out to buy out Francis and get Webber in NYC.
Both are big waste of time, slide way down the scale in turns of talent.

trade wallace -- thats crazy. we should trade Flip and get a more productice / solid PG. Webber would be a great addition and will provide them w/ a solid post option during the playoffs. He can score, pass and demands a double team sometimes :)- this trade wi;; spread the court and free things up for Tay on the wing. Sheed can roam free and knock that jumper down (but, he needs to exploit the post more come playoff time). Rip and Billups will have plenty of opportunities to dribble penetrate and kick out. Joe D. is a sharp dude -- if he can swing this!

I don't think we have to worry that much about Sheed leaving. I have not read a single thing about him saying he wants to leave. Also even if the Pistons did want to trade him he might be hard to move considering his 12 mil salary.

Dont rag on SHEED. He is amazing, and yes lets get Webber. Great fit for him here, he doesnt have to be the 1st 2nd nor the 3rd option. he will just fall into place here. He can pass has amazing basketball IQ. Great fit for him in Detroit.

Bring in CWebb!

I don't blame him himself for what "he" did to the Wolverines. I blame the people around him that offered him stuff that he shouldn't have taken. In order to blame him you have to ask if YOU yourself would have taken the same things if university officials gave you the same perks? Cash, new car, etc? I think you're living in a cloud if you say you're "better than that" and wouldn't take some extra cash and a nice ride during your college years.

I wanna see Webb here. We aren't a contender really as is, even with Chauncey back... and I doubt it if we had someone other than Flip as backup PG. But Cwebb could be really neat. We'd have even more firepower than those Kings had, and we can actually still D up a little. I like the sound of Webb Sheed and Tay as a trifecta. and you know Chauncey and Rip will do their thing all the same. I'd keep Dale around as a banger because you still do need someone big IN CASE we see Shaq again in the playoffs. Nazr off the bench, gonna be hot stuff.

Hey, I heard a rumor that they are obviously tyring to get Webber but also M Peterson. They would send Dale Davis and Antonio along with a first rounder in exchange for Mo Pete. That would set the starting line up as; Either Sheed or Webber as C the other as the four Tay(SF) Rip(SG) and CB1(PG) Bringing Mo Pete and Nazr off the bench. An article said that they think Nazr could be more productive coming off the bench. I personaly like this. If they can't get one or neither they need to trade for a PG. But I really like this if Joe D can pull it off.
